The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) has implemented new policies for energy providers to protect and assist victims of Domestic Violence (DV). This includes:
- Not releasing confidential information, including customer identities and locations, without the customer's consent;
- Introducing a policy recognising DV survivors as a form of hardship allowing leniency on bill deadlines; and
- Training staff on DV, to ensure survivors do not have to relive their story when applying for protection or leniency.
